The Design Process

A well defined design process.

  1. The Brief.

The client brief is by far one of the most important steps in the design process. Designers aren’t mind readers so I’ll dig deep to get to know you, your family and your lifestyle.

Ideally we’ll meet onsite and I’ll be looking to understand how you use the space, how it needs to function and feel. We’ll uncover your style likes and dislikes and we’ll cover your budget and the time frames we’ll be working to.

After establishing a scope of works, I’ll put together a fee proposal for my interior design services.

2. Concept + Schematic Design.

With our initial brief front of mind, this concept presentation will include mood boards, interior inspiration, proposed colour schemes, preliminary design sketches and recommendations on selections.

This will highlight the overall design direction and I’ll bring material and finish samples to the table.

This presentation is designed to be interactive and your input and feedback is invaluable during this phase.

3. Design Development + Documentation.

Taking all of your feedback on board, it’s time to fine tune all the preliminary design ideas and finalise selections. These are then translated into detailed design documentation suited for the construction phase.

Design sketches are recreated into CAD working drawings (floor plans/elevations/design details) and all selections (finishes, fixtures, fittings, furniture, window treatments) are put into a schedule for the trade team.

4. Sign Off.

After a final review and sign off on design drawings and selections, it’s time to hand over to your trades and I can get onto the ordering, delivery and installation.

I’ll collaborate with your builder, project manager and suppliers to keep things on track and address any issues that may arise.

After the finishing touches, I’ll leave a bottle of champagne on your island. This is your cue to start enjoying your new space. Welcome home!
